Movie Review - The Martian

🧭 Introduction

Released in 2015 and directed by Ridley Scott, The Martian follows astronaut Mark Watney (played by Matt Damon) as he’s stranded on Mars after a violent storm. Presumed dead by his crew, Watney must use his knowledge, creativity, and science to survive until rescue. The film blends humor, realism, and human perseverance into one of the most memorable space survival stories ever told.

🎬 Main Review

The Martian was an amazing sci-fi drama that didn’t need constant action to tell a compelling story. The plot never got old, and it showed great determination and perseverance in the face of survival on Mars. Almost every scene in the movie was based on real science — with the only exception being the storm at the beginning. I’ll give that one a pass, though, because it helped set up the story perfectly.

One quote I really loved was:

“I’m going to science the s**** out of this.”

I love that line because it captures the spirit of the movie — using intelligence, creativity, and problem-solving to survive through sheer will and knowledge.

🚀 The Science and Realism

What makes The Martian stand out from other sci-fi movies is how grounded it feels in reality. NASA even praised its attention to scientific accuracy. From the design of the habitat and rovers to the way Watney grows potatoes in Martian soil, everything feels plausible. The film celebrates real science — chemistry, botany, physics — and shows how knowledge can be the ultimate survival tool.

🌌 Final Thoughts

Overall, The Martian is a must-see for anyone who loves space, science, or stories of human endurance. It’s inspiring, funny, and surprisingly hopeful. The movie reminds us that no matter how impossible things seem, we can find a way through creativity, teamwork, and a refusal to give up.

If you haven’t seen it yet — watch it. You might just find yourself ready to “science the s**** out of” your own problems.
